In evaluation of this project, printmaking in layers, I set out to design a 2 meter of fabric that would hold the printed design of dance movements in a semi abstract style. I chose to design a fabric print over wallpaper and illustrating a poem because fabric would help portray the movement in dance was because I’ve always had a fascination on how smoothly a dancer can transition into different poses and I thought that would be a great subject choice for movement.

During the planning stage, I found it useful as with writing the brief and time plan I was able to keep in track with this project and exactly know where my thought process should be at sometimes, but unfortunately due to current circumstances my time plan went abit askew as I was unable to practise any printing experiments which had lead to me not being able to write down what types of print would work well with my design and eventually leading me to trying to think what ways of printing could work. Though I did manage to find some reasearch in dance inspired prints along with collecting information about any other designers and their design solely Based off looks for inspiration.

Looking back in my sketchbook I do realise that I could have looked further more into dance themed prints , involving movement just so I could maybe have had a more varied Exploitatio Of my theme.

Through out the development block, I experimented with different brushstrokes to express movement along with avariety of poses/ stances to see what I wanted my main focus point of the design to be. I also tested a variety of backgrounds to see if the colour of my design sound be more background based but after some experiments I realised that the focus point should just be the figures and that figures should be coloured.

However if I had the chance to do this project again I would have chosen a more expressive genre of dance to explore such as Jazz, Acro , hip hop, etc. as my design is very clean and abit structured so maybe next time if I chosen one of those genres I would go a little more carefree. I also wished that I had the chance to try out my design on wallpaper to see what it would actually look like but due to certain circumstances, was unable to order some plain wallpaper as the shops that I searched had ran out of stock othat item and the delivery time would take a little while , which would lead to me cutting it close to experimenting so I didn’t take the risk and as well I thought personally that it was quite inappropriate of myself to order this product when I would most likely not fully use the wallpaper so it would have been a waste of money and delivery drivers time.

It was also due to current affairs happening today that the class and I were unable to go into the printmaking workshop in college and test our design properly with the required equipment, which was really unfortunate as I know that  having all the right material would have just boosted up my print In the quality check.

For my final print design, I did try my best to create my print on some fabric by simply painting my dance themed figures very carefully with acrylic paint on some sinthetic fabric as that was the only material I had available. I believe that My final artwork fulfills the brief as it displays my chosen theme, with how I’ve placed the figures together with only some overlapping and seeming very expressive, I also think the colours that I’ve chosen to be in my design compliment eachother very well as their not clashing but not taking away from eachother or blending in which I’m very happy about.

In conclusionI believe that I have completed this project to the best of my ability under the circumstances given but in hindsight I know that I could have done a lot more with the research and exploring the different genres of dance as I could have came up with a variety of design possibilities.
